Advancements in dental materials and techniques have transformed the way complex cases are approached, making restorations not only more predictable and durable but also aesthetically refined.

Among these innovations, zirconia has emerged as a groundbreaking material, reshaping modern dentistry. Known for its remarkable strength and ability to mimic the natural beauty of teeth, zirconia has become a good choice for restorations that combine longevity with esthetical appeal.

This case report delves into the transformative power of zirconia, showcasing how it was instrumental in restoring a challenging dental case. Through precision and innovation, zirconia proves its ability to deliver both function and elegance, reinforcing its status as a cornerstone of contemporary dental solutions.

A 48-year-old patient visited our clinic, expressing concerns about both esthetic and functional dental issues.

He reported experiencing sensitivity while brushing his teeth and eating.

Upon frontal examination, significant erosion of the anterior teeth was observed, in addition of a noticeable reduction in their height.

Additionally, multiple Class V cavities were present on several teeth, further contributing to the patient’s discomfort and functional difficulties.

From an occlusal view, the effects of attrition are clearly visible, with multiple worn surfaces affecting the integrity of the teeth.

To restore both function and esthetics, a comprehensive treatment plan was developed, focusing on the rehabilitation of the teeth and occlusion.

After careful discussion, the patient fully approved the proposed approach, looking forward to improved comfort and oral health.

A minimally invasive preparation was carefully carried out on both anterior and posterior teeth to preserve as much healthy structure as possible. To ensure precise digital impressions, retraction cords were placed, allowing for optimal visualization of the gingival margins. The process was completed using the Helios 500 intraoral scanner (Eighteeth, China), capturing accurate and detailed digital records to guide the next steps in the treatment.

In this video you will see the upper and lower teeth preparation , ensuring precision and preservation of natural structure.
A full-mouth digital design was then meticulously crafted and executed using Exocad software, allowing for a seamless and accurate treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs.

A prototype of the future restorations was carefully created and tested in the patient’s mouth to evaluate fit and esthetics.

This try-in process allowed for precise adjustments, ensuring that the final restorations would provide optimal comfort and a seamless integration into the patient’s smile.

The final Zirconia restorations were placed on a printed model, showcasing their precision and fit.

The restorations were fabricated using Ezneer Zirconia (Aidite, Qinhuangdao, China) and treated with Biomic LiSi Connect (Aidite, Qinhuangdao, China) to optimize bonding. This specialized LiSi layer, applied to the zirconia surface before sintering, enhances clinical bonding performance, providing a glass-ceramic-like effect for improved durability and esthetics.

In the video on the right, following treatment, lateral movements are now guided by canines, and protrusion is also observed.

These videos, along with most of the images in this article, were captured using a smartphone and the SmileLite MDP (SmileLine, St. Imier, Switzerland) as lighting system.

Conclusions

In conclusion, this transformative dental rehabilitation not only restored the patient’s oral function but also revitalized their smile and confidence.

Through careful planning, innovative digital design, and precise execution, the final zirconia restorations seamlessly blended durability with esthetics.

The use of advanced materials and technology ensured a natural, harmonious result, enhancing both comfort and self-assurance.

Beyond the clinical success, this journey reflects the profound impact of modern dentistry in improving quality of life where science, artistry, and patient-centered care come together to create lasting smiles.
